Our Disney stay at the Polynesian resort

The second half of our Disney vacation was spent at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. If you have (or have not) previously read our Caribbean Beach Resort stay, we mentioned that we did a split stay. The Polynesian Resort was our first choice of stay, but for 7 nights, it just wasn’t in our budget. Some quick information for the Polynesian Resort:

  • Deluxe resort
  • Magic Kingdom Resort Area
  • Nearby transportation: Monorail, bus, and boat/ferry
  • On going construction for the new DVC building
  • Lava pool: main pool with splash pad and the Oasis pool: leisure pool
  • 11 different “islands” for rooms and suites, one “island” for the bungalows
  • Resort access to the monorail

We stayed 4 nights at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, which is in the Magic Kingdom Resort area. The day that we transferred to the Polynesian, we utilized it as a “resting” day. We started the morning off by checking out of the Caribbean Beach Resort, and taking a Minnie Van to the Polynesian Resort. When we arrived to the Polynesian, bell services took our luggage and tagged them. This comes in handy when your room is ready. Simply call bell services and they’ll deliver your bags right to your room. We waited no more than 20 minutes after we called. There is also an option to have your luggage transferred by your previous hotel to your next. The downside is that you don’t know exactly when you’ll receive your belongings upon check in.

Before heading to our 9am breakfast reservation at O’hana, we decided to do normal check in, even though check in starts at 3pm. The reason being to not do mobile check in for the Polynesian was because we wanted to request a higher floor. Russel, the cast remember who checked us in was very helpful and friendly!

After breakfast, we browsed around the shops and walked around the resort. This is a good way to familiarize yourself with where everything is located. We decided to hop onto the monorail to go see the Grand Floridian which is only one stop over. While at the Grand Floridian, we received an alert that our room was ready! This was around 12:15pm!

For this stay, we booked a theme park view, which put us in the Tuvalu building. Tuvalu is nearby the new DVC construction. Rest assured that we heard absolutely NO NOISE from the construction! My little one was able to take a quick midday nap. The room lived up to its “deluxe” name. Most of the Polynesian rooms have been converted into a Moana themed room. There was so much fine details added into the room. As mentioned before, we had requested a high floor which was fulfilled! Our room was on the third floor with a balcony, perfect to watch the Happily Ever After fireworks every night followed by the Electrical Water Pageant!

The room had two queens and fifth sleeper option, which again, we did not utilize. When the 5th sleeper is not being used, it remains as a couch. The vanity/shower is separated from the toilet via sliding door. The shower itself is a stand up with glass doors, and very spacious. There was plenty of space to store away our luggage under the bed, put our clothes in the drawers, and hang some of our outerwear. The room also came equipped with a coffee/tea bar, and small refrigerator.

The walk from Tuvalu to the Great ceremony house is about 3 minutes. The elevators in Tuvalu are on the smaller side, but we never had an issue with waiting too long for it. There is so much to do on property! The Polynesian does a great job with having activities throughout the day near the Great Ceremonial House. Every evening, they had the option to make smores, movies under the stars on select nights, and different themes for each daily activity. Make sure to stop by the Great Ceremonial House lawn or the front desk every morning to see what kind of activities are planned for the day.

The pool area alone is enough to fill your day if you wanted to lounge around. The Polynesian has a large main pool (Lava Pool) with a splash pad area, and there is a leisure pool (Oasis Pool) not too far off. Both pool areas have a bar with food options. The resort itself has many options to choose from when it comes to food: O’hana, Tambu Lounge, Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, Captain Cook’s, Kona Cafe, Kona Island, Pineapple Lanai. If you had purchased any of the meal plans, make sure to double check which area’s accept your plan. Also feel feel to even ask the cast members if any dining plans are accepted, especially for the pool bar areas!

Overall, our stay at the Polynesian resort exceeded our expectations! If you ever have the opportunity to stay at this resort, DO IT! You will not be disappointed!
